So the surprise move we've been discussing - "up" - is playing out.

Looks like news and overnight futures are setting up the challenge on the lengthy downswing...

trendvue.com

The futures have touched the high of the big down bar from 01/22. Some short covering and buying has happened overnight; price will need to continue to move up fairly quickly here otherwise all the newly minted longs, most of which are in the money now, will get queasy (me included).

VIX initiated a downswing leg on the outside bar yesterday; although if this was something I was trading based on swing starts, I'd wait for confirmation of a lower low.

Oddball thought of the day - its January 24th. Month is coming to a close. The COMPQ needs to close above 1950 (NDX 1577; ND futures 1583; INDU 10021; SPX 1148) to have an "up month" which the press has been harping on about as being an important indicator for the balance of the year.

So the INDU has just a little more to climb than the rest, but all the others are within an easy up day or two or three from here.

There's probably enough money out there to take care of holding the markets up until the end of the month..

;)
