The "spin-off" shares happened some time after the IPO and I
took their basis to be the price on the day they were disbursed to me--$30. Take a look at the disbursement statement and note the date.

HOWEVER, the statement says "According to the IRS, your cost basis in the Common Stock will be zero"

BTW, I instituted a transfer of the shares from EquiServe
to my brokerage account, which is NOT EquiServe.

(I'd rather the PRU shares I received to have a basis of $30
rather than 0$ according to the statement"
