I remember those days, still possible to do ok in the market then.
The 73-74 stock market was a tough one also. Then in the late 1970's with inflation in the mid teens and mortgage rates at 18 percent for a while, the 25 percent drop in one day in 1987, all the flap when the DOW went thought 3000. Always good reasons not to "risk" your money in the stock market. Glad there was no internet then with so many anonymous posters forecasting the end of world. Even the "big boys" that are in the Barron's roundtable do not seem to be able to pick good stocks. I used to list the top picks of many of them and check the performance once a year or so for several years. It was very seldom that any of their picks did as well as some of us part timers.
If someone borrows from a credit card to open a margin account, they will have a different outlook than someone with only unneeded "excess" funds in the market. Hard to tell who is who on the net.
Kind of fun to read the "doom and gloomers" posts. Always seem so sure of themselves.
