Nandu, I see your analysis as right on. I listened very carefully to the CC and I agree that SGI is giving an honest representation that if anything, goes to the conservative.

I am now waiting from the new product announcements . That's next Monday or Tuesday. Next week is Linux Expo in New York, I wonder if they have some linux stuff. Well I would not expect any big stuff in Linux. Also I read with interest the synopsis software announcement. Synopsis works all the way up to 800 mhz. hmmmm Well I'd expect a 600 mhz for the 3000 series machines and that will be good. But an 800mhz announcement would be quite astounding. But the Synopsis could also mean that the 800 or better than 600 is not far off. Also I expect the higher clocks in the high end SGI systems will not be in the 300 machines for a while. There are pragmatic cost considerations for this.

But the really big news is the 300 series and the compute cost point it represents including power density. I can see 300 series in something in every tank, humvey, ship, plane and even maybe torpedoes and other very hi tech bombs the carry smart guidance. There is a tremendous cost reduction in the development of software when the embedded system is running the same OS and CPU as the development system. In military systems there is a monster cost of testing the reliability of the applications. Well the applications do give and take life.
