Ted, <what could possibly be the agenda of the press not saying someone held a gun to the guy and kept him from shooting any more people.>

I thought it'd be obvious.

<FWIW, the press reflects mainstream America.>

"Mainstream America" is an overgeneralization. It all depends on what your definition of the "mainstream" is.

As for the press, it's natural for members of the press to have liberal leanings, just like it's natural for business execs to have conservative leanings. No wonder conservatives criticize the liberal press. It's just like liberals criticizing Big Business.

I'm not sure if it is an agenda or not I just notice that such stories are not covered very often. If a armed civilian keeps anyone from being shot it is at most local news, and not a big news item even there. If he stops a killer after he has killed several people then it either doesn't get mentioned or it is mentioned in one sentence deep in the report or article.

If it is part of an agenda I would say it is part of a gun control agenda. If guns are shown to be very useful for self defense and defense of others then it hurts gun control efforts. The mass killings that make the national news are actually the types of situations where someone with a gun is most likely to be able to save lives but they are used by many to support the idea of gun control.
