I'm not the best guy to ask since I use a cable connection through a Linksys wireless LAN.

But, FWIW, you might learn the cause of your time-outs using some of the utilities at PC Pitstop:

pcpitstop.com

I don't remember how I cam across it, but a couple weeks ago I downloaded a shareware thing called Download Accelerator Plus that has been working well for me. Any server that supports a "resume" of a download will eventually give up the file you are downloading, even if it does time out along the way. Looks like it is available here
