william, thanks for the tip. my goal was to get a great "budget" hi-fi system and i think i did that. it wasn't cheap, but it presents value for the dollar and i enjoy it.

having said that... ;-) i can see how one could spend a lot of big bucks on equipment trying to get that *perfect* sound. i would like to hear a high quality tube amp to compare to my consumer av receiver. i can't imagine the difference is as big as going from box speakers to maggies, but i'd bet it is pretty nice all the same...

well, maybe i don't want to hear it... after all, good sound is relative and i don't want to wreck my good vibes with my system by hearing the "best." ;-)

the guy i bought the speaks from said his friend has a $100k system... he said the scene in ghost where the ghost passes through somebody literally caused him to have goose bumps.

i'm surprised someone like you who is so concerned about high fidelity is satisfied with the quality of mp3's. mp3's are nowhere near the quality of cd.
