Wednesday January 23, 5:44 pm Eastern Time

SAN JOSE, Calif., Jan 23 (Reuters) - Semiconductor test and measurement equipment maker KLA-Tencor Corp.'s (NasdaqNM:KLAC - news) chief financial officer forecast on Wednesday that third quarter earnings would drop to 14 cents to 16 cents per share in the current, third quarter.

Revenue would be $330 million to $350 million, John Kispert, the CFO, told investors in a conference call, adding he remained cautious about the quarter despite some positive signs for customers' business.

Orders would rise 10 percent from the previous quarter, ending in December, he said.

His estimates compared with a consensus forecast of earnings of 17 cents per share on sales of $360 million, according to research firm Thomson Financial/First Call.

Profit estimates by the 22 analysts surveyed had ranged between 8 cents and 27 cents per share. The company reported earnings of 25 cents per diluted share in the second quarter.
