thanks for the spin on the VXN,that's about what I thought myself, but I wanted to check with SI's best known complacent investor...

how are those complacent shorts working out for you? I can get good buy signals from the VXN, but it is quite loose about generating sell signals. would that mean fear is a better indicator than greed?

anyway, thanks gain for the feedback

I was thinking that the VXN didnt have much room for a breakout to the downside - but I was just looking at a 3 year weekly chart for VXN and in fact there is a lot of room for a breakdown... the VIX has a much different picture with not much room for a breakdown (historically speaking)

btw, just noticed that an RSI(7) applied to the daily VXN is howing quite a sequence of higher lows since mid to end of November... would seem to support your idea of a breakout to the upside in the VXN..
