Old news, new insights:

Juniper supplies routers for Callahan in Germany
By Total Telecom staff

24 January 2002

Juniper Networks has won a contract to supply M-series routers for the cable network of Callahan subsidiary ish in Germany. The deal is part of a wider contract awarded to a consortium headed by Nortel Networks in February 2001.

The value of the contract to Juniper was not disclosed, though the consortium was given orders worth E500 million, and potentially up to E1 billion. Of this Nortel's share was said to be E300 million.

Nortel will be responsible for installing and maintaining the network. Juniper's M5, M10 and M160 routers have been installed in six POPs in the Ruhr region of North Rhine-Westfalia. The POPs are interconnected with OC-48/STM-16 circuits with M5 and M10 routers acting as peering devices connecting to other service providers.

Ish, formerly known as Callahan Nordrhein Westfalen GmbH (CNRW), currently connects 4.2 million households with cable television. It offers voice over IP and broadband Internet via cable TV, including a flat-rate option.
