I'm not sure. I know there is lots of fat in the DOD afterall, it's the federal government and they are not accountable to the market for efficency. However 2 points come to mind in looking at your link. 1. How much do we spend defending allies that would otherwise be spent by them? We are still funding many post WW2 alliances. Do you think it would be better if we disolved those pacts and told our allies to fend for themselves? I'm not sure but it bears asking.
2. Spending for the defense of this country is the one allocation directly expressed in the Constitution. All other have been interpreted into it. FDR opened the floodgates and the corresponding explosion of federal spending and loss of buying power of the dollar are no coincidences. So, While it probably is far more than we really need, it is the single expenditure that can be justified under a strict reading of our Constitution. All else is argueablely PORK BARREL PIGGYFEST SPENDING.
