As far as I can recall, the only "legitimate" use for an e-mailed .exe was self-extracting zip files. But WinZip and related programs are so ubiquitous these days that eliminating the use of self-extractors is a small price to pay for a complete ban on these files. It seems to me if the major ISPs would simply block their transmission through their e-mail servers it would eliminate 90%+ of all viral outbreaks. One has to wonder who really benefits from continuing to allow them as attachments.
