Sam,
My firm is having the last(hopefully) of its layoffs on 1/31 but there has been a noticeable pickup of interest and it seems to me that cash is out there ready to be deployed, albeit slowly and deliberately. My firm is in tech for financial institutions. Certainly feels much better than last year already but layoffs are a drag. What does this mean? Perhaps a Snowball recovery and the snowball is now beginning its descent down the hill as we speak? I was thinking W, but now maybe an L with a gradual upslope starting now. WE shall see. In any case when the first numbers are revised we may this quarter with some small amount of growth signalling the official end of the recession. Also think Enron debacle is making many companies much more cautious in their statements, tempering some of the optimism that may be out there. That will be good for the markets when the comparisons get blown away by a bigger factor than expected. mike
