So Mike reported on the skunkworks at Ronler Acres in Hillsborough before Mercury News did. Lets give credit where credit is due.

Jozef, Re: [from Mike]"But it's a bit too early to call it a day, isn't it? What with the agreement with Compaq over Itanium migration, and the imminent introduction of three McKinleys, which certainly hold out some promise, there's still a lot to play for.

For Intel to have a backup plan is sensible and in line with its past behaviour. In addition, Intel virtually owns the server X86 market right now, with large corporations and big PC vendors all standing in an obedient line. That doesn't have to be the case forever, but the firm which has to prove itself to corporate buyers is AMD, not Intel."

Why would I disagree with this?

RE:"Intel will dump Itanic if Hammer does too well"

Well they have a year to get itanic going. Then if iTanic never floats it could go back in drydock but I doubt they will drop it unless Intel has an alternative.

Now we here Intel is working on plan B, a 64 bit Hammer compatible chip.
Wow, what a surprise! lol
Had Intel gone this way earlier they might have headed off AMD with their own proprietary instructions no?
