Then I am not in the GOB,
I should have pointed out that there is more than one GOB network. The people that you should know to break into the auto-mechanic business is different from the people you should know to break into carpentry, or business brokering, or beer distribution. It's not just the Chamber of Commerce or the Rotary Club.

You seem to think that anyone who has made it has had it given to them
I'm doing well too, and I like to think it is from my own abilities and efforts. I realize that much of my success is due to my own GOB. In the last 25 years I have met and worked with a lot of people who are still active in the local tech community. Moreover many of these people have attained positions of power and prestige. When I need a job, or a contract, or to consult I can usually find out what is available in a timely manner and can often skip the interview process. The trendy word for this is networking, but I have no scales over my eyes.
