Andrew: All this negativity is turning into a short squeeze. Could it be the visibility that Qualcomm will turn a profit this year? Could it be the near term deployment of CDMA2000? Could it the the Gilder's discussion of WCDMA WLL that is raising institutional interest? Could it be the upgrade from GPRS to WCDMA this year?

One thing is clear. Everyone has made the official prognosis that growth will accelerate in the second half of 2002. Unlike last year, it will not be an abatement in the inventory correction. The recovery in 2002 will yield real economic growth now that the cycle of non performing loans have been written off. Bottom line - 2002 will provide actual EPS gains for Qualcomm, unlike the actual losses they posted last year.

It only takes 1 or 2 big developments in the near term deployment to wireless last mile connectivity for CDMA2000 1XEV, WCDMA for UMTS, CDMA2000 for WLL in India, WCDMA for WLL in the US and Asia. Personally, I think the potential for fixed broadband and VoIP in MMDS spectrum with a WCDMA interface is the blockbuster announcment of the year for Qualcomm.
