I don't have time right now Neo to find the precise context you are quoting from. I am thinking of an article on Hirohito, and I will tackle the ugly job of trying to find it later.

It must be a horrible position being a God, and needing to posture a divine will and faith--while still living in the real world! I think about what it must be like. Ouch! And those army fellas were no Caspers...

This new book totally revises the opinion on Hirohito and points out the extensive (but absolutely logical) cover-up and collaboration between the States and the Emperor. I would like to read this book.

It is clear to me from reading reviews on different sites, that this book is the beginning of a whole new and more accurate perspective on both the war and its aftermath.

We are going to hear much in the next 5 years which will make much of our current discussion rather moot, I believe!

Scholars predicted that the book will spur demands for the governments of Japan and America to throw open still-secret records from the war. A resolution demanding that the United States declassify information about Japanese war crimes is pending in the U.S. Senate.

"Bix reveals new information on the degree to which the U.S. government systematically deceived its own people and the rest of the world about Hirohito's involvement," Johnson said. "Hirohito was placed back on the throne and told to keep his mouth shut in order to make Japan what it is today: a secure American satellite."

So much will have to be revised to give a greater accuracy to our knowledge of history. I bet this book is an eye opener, and I bet there are more being prepared right now (wouldn't it be great if the suppposed Hirohito diary shows up or is released?).

I think we will find that both the Japanese and the Americans still have many secrets to reveal. Of course there are many that are forever lost to revelation.

On that basis, it seems wasteful to get overly involved in a history that is experiencing an absolute revision of scholarship from new evidence. Let me know if you are going to read Bix?
