How interesting..

My friend came home from the hospital one day and her grandparents were there......she had been told that they were dead but they had actually defected to Taiwan. My friend, her brother and her mother and father all took off immediately and went to Taiwan. Her father had been a professor in Bejing U. They all lived in an apartment and rode bicycles.

If the gov't had found out that the grandparents had defected, they might all have been sent to the country to fend for themselves. So, the kids thought the grandparents were dead. They were shocked beyond belief when they saw them. My friend gave up her whole career and fled the country.
