Suicide is not a rational act. It is not carried out following some kind of cost-benefit analysis. It is quite possible for death to seem the lesser of two evils to someone who is under tremendous stress and in a state of depression.

The media are reporting that this individual had tried to prevent some of the more egregious acts committed by the senior management team at Enron. He may well have been troubled by his inability to prevent what has become a catastrophic event in the lives of many former Enron employees.

There is absolutely no reason to infer that this was anything but an act of irrational desperation by a deeply troubled man.
