You are exactly correct.

But, MSFT does not have to make the INTC releases *FLY*. They can make them execute *JUST VERY WELL*..

If Intel is going to support its own Ix86-64, they have about 4 months to divulge it, otherwise Windows will not be ready for it.

If Intel does decide to do their own ISA, Microsoft will eventually follow, but they will support x86-64 first.

Intel certainly cannot wait to see what Hammer demand is like before committing to an alternative instruction set.
