Dave, Re: "Actually, its a somewhat interesting idea, however the execution failed. What KapKan failed to consider is that people buy computers from places other than CostCo. Per chance, did he check BestBuy, CircuitCity, Fry's, CompUSA, etc and mark boxes?

It was very flawed, however an interesting idea."

Since his objective was to gloat over limited Pentium 4 volumes, he was successful in his attempt. Intel only sold 1.5M units in Q2, and that's far smaller than they usually sell with microprocessors. However, it was not all all surprising. Intel's only platform supported an expensive memory standard that few people wanted, and performance couldn't justify. Intel's only socket was soon to become obsolete by a socket change in the third quarter. Intel's performance had fallen far behind, and prior to the 1.7GHz launch, it was consistently producing scores that only achieved minor advances past a 1GHz Pentium III. It makes you wonder if Kapkan worked for the Pentium 4 team while he was at Intel, and his frustration in this product was what lead him to his bitter attitude.

The only flaw, as I see it, was that he and other AMDroids took this to mean that Pentium 4 would always be a failure, and that Intel would never get the volumes they need to compete with AMD, while the Pentium III slowly dropped into obsolescence. Kapkan is always misleading, because he nit-picks a small disadvantage, and makes it sound like it will be the root cause of the downfall of the entire company. He must have had a bad experience at Intel to make this happen, and if I were you, I'd pay him no mind. His antics in this thread are only seen as comic or ennui.
