Only 3% agreed with the Government choice. What kind of a democratic republic is that?!--LOL!!
Apparently the type you want- -because that's exactly what you have been insisting for many posts that the allies should have agreed to in the first place.

And Hiroshima was a major Japanese military and naval base.

It was to spare the Japanese people from utter destruction that the ultimatum of July 26 was issued at Potsdam. Their leaders promptly rejected that ultimatum."
So what should we have done? Surrendered?
And you keep insisting that the Japanese were going to surrender. But they hadn't. They kept fighting, in spite of being pushed back all the way across the Pacific. So how many decades should we have waited for them to surrender? You said the Japanese would have forced the government to surrender because of loss of face. I think you missed something, though: JAPAN WAS NOT A DEMOCRACY!

And you know something? Civilians do get killed in wars.

Did you miss this?

2. There is reason to believe that the operation for the occupation of Japan following the
landing may be very long, costly an arduous struggle on our part. The terrain, much of
which I have visited several times, has left the impression on my memory of being one
which would be susceptible to a last ditch defense such as has been made on Iwo Jima an
Okinawa and which of course is very much larger than either of those two areas. According
to my recollection it will be much more unfavorable with regard to tank maneuvering than
either the Philippines or Germany.

Being the anti-American you are, how many Americans do you think should have been killed to force the surrender of Japan?
