I've noticed the VIX and VXN have a tendency to drop sharply after 3:30 so long as the market stays steady. So long as the market stays in a trading range, the volatility keeps dropping. The volatility for the NDX was in the mid-teens during most of 1991. It's currently 33. you can check ivolatility.com but I think the 30-day volatility is still setting new 52-week lows. It's taking awhile for the lower BBands to drop to make it easier for the indexes to decline. The 20-day moving average is still essentially flat. The last ten days spent below the average for most indices is offset by the first ten days of the month spent above it. If the indices can stay down, the moving average bands should start to trend down by early to mid Feb.
