For Intel to let this leak is an extraordinary strategic maneuver.

Re: Any software developer thinking about doing

Any software developer thinking about doing an Itanium project will definitely STOP what they are doing and WAIT until Intel's plans are clear.

The Hammers, however, are designed so that they can operate with X86-32 or X86-64 software - so sales won't be affected.

But that release may have "hammered" the coffin lid onto Itanium....

Paul, you are such a fool. First you proclaimed that intel would never copy amd and now that it's turning out that they might you try to put a positive spin on it. In reality this is bad for both companies. If like you say developers may stop 64-bit hammer development what do you think the IA-64 boys will be thinking? I am amazed at how you try to spin this as a positive.

<For Intel to let this leak is an extraordinary strategic maneuver.>

You are our little genius, Paul.

Yes Intel strategically leaked Yamhill to slow down the out-of-control momentum, cool the overwhelming demand and relieve the acute shortages of the Itanic.

At the same time they stopped the Hammer software development dead in its tracks by leaking that Yamhill is code compatible with x86-64.

Paul
re: extraordinary strategic maneuver
wow <gggg>
re: Intel may - or may not - even be doing this Yamhill project - I don't know
you mean to say that Barrett leaked it without consulting you?
re: The net effect is to FREEZE software development for the AMD Hamster family
two things got frozen by that "extraordinary strategic maneuver":
1) development of ia64 software
2) your a** <ggg>
since it is going to be compatible with hammer it would only encourage the development
