O'Neil ran Alcoa. I watched the interview on Charlie Rose. I was very disappointed in Charlie Rose. In view of the obvious fraud involved, Rose engaged in sycophancy of the highest order, a suck-up cover-up that allowed O'Meil to hide in plain sight. There's a tremendous amount of damage that O'Neil is doing at Treasury, and Rose is undoubtedly aware of some of it, but unwilling to get to the truth of the matter. One of the truly most horrifying things about O'Neil is that his ideal is for corporations to pay no U.S. taxes, to be able to shelter all income in off-shore tax havens, to completely abdicate social responsibility for our country and to wrap the whole "package" up in the language of patriotism. If the American public actually had a clue as to how O'Neil's goals conflict with a stong America, they would be horrified and repulsed. But they simply haven't paid attention, and that's why O'Neil can operate in the conniving ways that he has. In short, O'Neil's business is selling out America to the amoral, venal and greedy corporate cheiftains. His cronies. Sukarno and the rest of the crony capitalists of Asia could take lessons. Thanks for the attempt to link to the customer list for Arthur Anderson. Rep. John Dingell was on Charlie Rose last night and he predicted that Arthur Anderson would not survive this scandal. I concur. They are so dirty that they can't even think in terms of the truth any longer. I'm having a good laugh over this page:andersen.com !OpenDocument They talk about "candid and forthright cooperation". What a hoot! After spending weeks shredding documents, isolating the home office by scapegoating a conveient dupe (David Duncan) and dissembling for hours before the House Government Affairs committee they have the temerity to say they are being candid?? Amazing. Disgusting. Re: General Electric - This is a classic non-bank bank, with the full panoply of arcana in the financial statements relating to the financing arm that raise all of the same red flags as did the Enron off-balance sheet scheming. The GE financials are every bit as opaque as those of ENE, and thus deserve the same level of skepticism. Salaams, Ray
