Interesting source defending the Palestinian equation. Not much there to disagree with, except that every solution is flawed and Arafat's recognition of Israel is only for the camera. I would add, so are all his agreements and cease-fires. Arafat has called sixteen cease-fires during the intifada. He probably could have enforced the earlier ones, except that he didn't want a cease-fire then. He wanted to negotiate at the table while Hamas bombers blew themselves up in the street (which he would deplore, of course). Now under intense pressure, he finds he can no longer stop Hamas. He can just try to elicit sympathy for his predicament from Robert Malley and Yossi Beilin and of course, the EU. But they're not going to do him much good unless he can get the Arab leaders and the US administration to join them. But I don't think that Egypt or the US will ride to his rescue this time around.
