Sharon wouldn't sit idle either. btw, what does "going weiner" mean, going soft? But it's not a question of what would happen, it's a question of what Saddam expects to happen. And he's not a reliable judge of Western behavior.

If Saddam does commit aggression against Israel, that would untie our hands - which, IMO, are tied at the present time. If he's stupid enough to do that, then we'll unleash the dogs of war. Is he smart enough to know that? My guess is yes.

Taking it a step or two down the decision tree, if I was Israel, I'd try to get this going right now because I'd know that the decisionmakers in the US feel like their hands are tied, even though they are itching to go after Saddam. Since I am US, I'd be watching for Israel to provoke the chain of events. Now, can Saddam withstand the urge to respond and set into motion the events which lead, not only to his demise but the end of everything he holds dear? I have a higher opinion of his intelligence than Nadine, but she wants him dead now and I don't care all that much. Everyone dies eventually.

So how will it play out? My guess is that Saddam isn't crazy.

My other guess, which is more problematic, is that it's his move. GWB may disagree.
