A story which may help:

On 9/10/01, I wired some funds into my IB stock account. IB uses a clearing house -- Citibank, NYC -- which was severely damaged on 9/11. My transaction was completely lost, along with my funds.

IB traced the transaction number, and within 10 days the funds were added to the account. That was a nervous wait for me, but IB was very reassuring at every step. They were as concerned as I was.

Iceman66, my experience with IB as far as wiring money is concerned have been very good, even from Switzerland. Last time it took less than 24hrs to have the money available in my account.
