Turned out only a handful of suckers actually spent money on Itaniums. Who do you think is sticking their neck our now and buying McKinleys? Or, by "shipping", do you mean Intel sending out trial systems? How would I know how many are shipping? You miss the point though. Guys on this thread are popping woodies at the thought that there are rumors of possible hammer tapeout. You guys trash real live systems running real live apps on real live operating systems on real live silicon processed on a real live production process. Vapor is great and real systems are trash. NiceGuy rejoices while AMD loses market share and bleeds red ink because Intel profits are lower during the worst recession in the history of the semi industry. The XP which AMD can only make in "10s of thousands" is almost as fast as Intel's high volume NWs so that makes things great. Who cares if they can't make them, the specs look good and that's all that matters. XP prices are dropping like a rock on pricewatch but who cares??? If Intel's profits are lower then it's a victory right? AMD's only copper fab has major yield problems but we'll just chalk that up to half the fab being used for process development. One wonders how AMD will continue to develop their process in the future and only have 50% capacity for production. With "world class yields" but only half capacity AMD is doomed.
