But my point remains that I just can't see offering all you can use data anyplace. the 200 or 250 megabytes per month which QCOM's white paper talks about would not even start to service me." Well, there may be the problem we are looking for! Are you a typical customer for this service? Are you a target customer for a CricKet phone. You seem rather mobile in your requirements. So I don't know if you would be cut out for a CricKet phone. Same goes for data. You want a PDA that you can use whilst changing planes in the Delta Terminal in Salt Lake City, and then again when you arrive at San Diego Airport. Inside Copley Hall. On Lusk Blvd, etc. Believe me.. There will be several companies that will be happy to provide 1X data services to you on a "per minute or per byte" charge. After all, that is what they are in business for.. The mobility customer. However, LWIN is after the Limited Mobility customer. Folks that might think spending $550 on a ticket to San Diego (Let alone a $400 PDA) is a bit exotic. The same kind of folks that find an all you can talk "localized" cellurlar phone kind of appealing. Those folks that use their CricKet phone as their primary phone. But, keep their landline around to connect to the internet to check their e-mail, get the lottery numbers, etc. So some sort of package that would be cheaper than paying for a landline and an ISP. You know the types.. Just like your typical CricKet customer they already have in their database. They understand this customer, and have spent great deal of money identifying which radio stations they listen too and what type of ad format/promotions generates the greatest sales. After all, it gets cheaper and cheaper to advertise two services at the same time to the same demographics versus striking out on some new concept and market. We want to be able to offer a package of services. Fixed Mobile Phone/ Fixed Mobile Internet Access to our target demographics. Doesn't make much sense of scraping everything they have done so far to try and find a new class of customers which they will have to compete against Verizon or Sprint PCS who can offer a "roam anywhere" service. Maybe it is just me.. But, a company should stick with it's strengths. CricKet knows it's customer base. Maybe too simplistic. But if Monet can offer all you can eat data services for $49.99 per month using only 1X on a brand new network that does not offer voice services to subsidize the depreciation and amortization schedule. (Qualcomm's price for 1X data greenfield deployment is almost triple that of 1XEV (6 cents vs 2.2 cents)). Seems that CricKet could make a go of all you can eat 70kbs (1XEV-DO) for $29.99 for existing CricKet customers. $34.99 for non Cricket customers.monetmobile.com You just sell the ComDev type of Fixed Data modems at all of your existing distribution points. Take it home. Plug it in to an open USB port on your Desktop. And you are ready to go. Looks like LWIN filled that position that had to do with specifying CPE equipment. No need to reinvent the wheel, IMO.. They have already spent a large sum of money building their "all you can eat" format, and marketing.. Seems kind of wasteful to ditch it and start over trying to compete with Verizon and SprintPCS? PCSTEL
