Out here on Vashon Island which is between Tacoma and Seattle on Pudget Sound we have cable provided by AT&T Broadband. Right now in the greater Seattle Tacoma area AT&T Broadband has been offering 1.5Mbps cable connections for $19.95 per month for the first 6 months. After that you pay $35.95 per month for that service. Also have 712Kbps DSL by CenturyTel that we use as a backup. It's $49.95 per month.

After talking to the installers (I went to high school with the CenturyTel installer many years ago) there is a real battle going on to get "first time hook-ups" of broadband connections in Washington State. I wonder if that is occurring in other areas of the country. The island is a rural area near Seattle. Fortunately competition is driving down broadband costs here.

Aside from the problems of migrating over from @Home I've been very happy with AT&T's cable modem service.
