Dear Joe:

Do you place IBM in that category? Their customers? They put Linux on their Power4 mainframes. Those customers think that systems costing upwards of $250K can use a OS that be obtained free. They are perfectly usable systems and they do what the customer wants them to.

All I said is that many of those Linux users would run Linux on any Hammer they purchase. Thus, they would be running on a 64 bit OS with 64 bit applications (even if they come with the OS, they are still applications). You stated that only a tiny fraction of purchasers of Hammers would be running 64 bit. I know of hundreds of avid computer persons who would upgrade within a year of its release (some avid gamers would lie, cheat and steal (borrow) one even before its release). Many of those are Linux users and I know they will run Linux on those machines.

Tiny they're not (in either desire, numbers or influence).

Pete
