Avocado, yes - the nahuatl/maya word for the fruit, ahuacate, means also 'testicle', they hang in pairs on the tree, stories vary as to whether there was any reputed aphrodisiac effect ... not so for the chile however, its qualities are well-known and demonstrated

'it's not central to our economy' - no, it's not ... neither are cellphones, let alone any particular brand of cellphones [sorry to harp on that but M pissed me off there] ... nothing is indispensable, we could do without petroleum even after a short sharp adjustment, we are a very adaptive species, no question

Gold doesn't need to be central to the mainstream to hold its value, because there isn't much of it, it's really quite rare on the earth's surface you know .... all the gold companies on the planet added together have not much more than the market cap of qcom ... China just freed up their gold market to a large extent ... the japanese should have more gold and less US treasuries imho ... PoG is making higher lows, if not greatly higher highs yet .... i dunno, this is where i cut my speculating teeth, on gold stocks, it's like coming home, the money to buy this computer came from speculating on a play called Arequipa down in Perú ...... show me some electronics stock with half that meat to it, and i'm interested ... but pay thirty-five billions US? - no freakin way -g-

The azteca [actually they called themselves the mexica] probably came from around the present state of Utah, btw ... good point on Rousseau, of course his whole conception was a myth, but then that's what drives the species, isn't it .... Columbus with his myth of the Indies, Moctezuma with the ancient myth of the blond gods coming from the east, Mr Greenspan with his myth of paper money, so many companies with their myths of making some of Mr Greenspan's myth
