Actually, China has been deploying their mobile wireless network as well as their internet backbone at an astounding rate. The purchases by China Mobile in the past 24 months are pretty hefty. And it wasn't to support a CDMA network.

The real issue is "just how big is the market?". The Chinese use their population as a big stick to whack vendors over the head to drive product prices down (otherwise known as a "carrot"). With a population of 1.2B people, the market would appear to be huge. But in fact, only about 300M of the population should be considered as the addressable market in the next few years. The reason for this is simple, "education". The vast majority of people in China do not have an interest technology and probably won't for at least another generation or two. The same can be said for India (though the percentage is slightly higher in India. I agree that eventually, China will reach its full potential as a market. But by the time that happens, current technology discussions will largely have been rendered moot.
