Dan, it looks like AMD's fabrication facilities are working overtime.

Do they make sure to pay you time and a half? <G>

Toshiba's newest Satellite series notebooks feature first Canadian mobile computers with Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 processor and luxury multimedia hardware
Satellite series launch continues Toshiba's reputation for leading mobile technology

MARKHAM, ON, Jan. 28 /CNW/ - Toshiba of Canada, Information Systems Group (ISG), today introduced four new models in the Satellite series targeting the retail market. The launch of both the Satellite 5000 and 1900 represent industry firsts in Canada.

The Satellite 5000-X1Z is one of Toshiba's first mobile work and gaming notebooks with a high-resolution SuperFine screen, offering increased brightness, 270 per cent greater viewing angle, compared with existing LCD screens, and a 55 per cent faster response rate. The Satellite 1900-OFS is Canada's first notebook to include a 1.6 GHz Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 processor with a 400MHz Front Side Bus (FSB) -- which allows for some of the fastest processing speeds possible.

This retail launch also marks the release of the Satellite 1800 notebooks, Toshiba's lowest cost consumer notebook.

"Notebooks were once considered corporate products but today, notebook sales for home and small business users are booming because of affordable prices and diverse computer and entertainment features," said Mary Ann Yule, Vice President of Marketing, Toshiba of Canada, ISG. "We're the world's leading notebook manufacturer and we're reinforcing this position with the launch of the newest notebooks in our Satellite series. Toshiba's bringing customers an Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 processor and one of the brightest LCD screens in the industry with our Satellite 1900 and 5000 models' colourful and mobile designs."

Notebooks are evolving to deliver more high-value diverse functions to the home computer buyer at affordable prices. Any of the new Satellite models can be used for mobile work, homework, Internet access and e-mail and also support versatile home entertainment such as DVD-viewing and gaming on its dedicated screen or on an external large screen TV monitor.

Satellite 5000-X1Z

NVIDIA(R) technology included in the Satellite 5000 allows a notebook to run graphics-intense programs like games and DVDs off a second dedicated processor at high speeds (32 MB DDR) making this notebook optimal for both work and play.

The 5000 model is a multimedia portable computer with a metallic blue casing and translucent blue keyboard. With an Intel(R) Pentium(R) III 1.1GHz processor and NVIDIA(R) 32MB DDR video memory GPU for gaming, Toshiba's Satellite 5000 combines speed with luxury multimedia equipment like Harmon Kardon(R) speakers -- the same audio technology used in BMW automobiles -- SuperFine screen technology, Secure Digital Media technology and wireless networking capability. This versatile notebook weighs little more than six pounds, can be easily stored away and is ideal for work or play.

Satellite 1900-OFS

This high-performance mobile computer is the first in Canada to feature the Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 processor that can run at speeds of up to 1.6GHz with a 400MHz Front Side Bus (FSB) and up to 768 MB SDRAM. Inside the Satellite 1900's electric blue casing, the Combo drive with CDRW and DVD functionality and a 15.0' TFT screen makes this the perfect desktop replacement, fast and powerful enough to run complex office applications and gaming features.

Satellite 1800-VF1 and Satellite 1800-HV9

Toshiba of Canada also today unveiled two new valued-priced systems, the Satellite 1800-VF1 and Satellite 1800-HV9. These new notebooks provide consumers with exceptional quality and technology in an affordable package.

The Satellite 1800-VF1 is an all-in-one system with a fast 1.1GHz Intel(R) Celeron(R) processor, 256 MB standard RAM, a 14.1-inch TFT active matrix screen with dual screen technology. Dual screen technology allows users to attach an external monitor and run multiple programs on two screens simultaneously.

Toshiba's Satellite 1800-HV9 is also an inclusive package with dual screen technology, but features a 1.1GHz Intel(R) Pentium(R) III processor and combo-drive technology that allows users to create their own CDs with the CDRW function.

Pricing and availability

The Satellite 5000-X1Z carries a suggested list price (SLP) starting at CDN $2,999 and the Satellite 1900-OFS carries an SLP starting at CDN $2,799. The Satellite 1800 series carries an SLP starting at CDN $1,899 (VF1) and CDN $2,399 (HV9). All computers are available immediately through Toshiba retail partners or direct through www.shoptoshiba.ca
