8:40AM: The futures are pointing to a flat open. It's a pretty quiet pre-market considering we are still in earnings season. The FOMC meeting begins today with the announcement on rates due tomorrow at 2:15 ET. We expect today and tomorrow to be relatively calm ahead of the announcement....On the earnings front, Texas Instruments (TXN 28.40) beat consensus by a good margin and guided higher for the current qtr. Merrill Lynch upgrades the stock. Coca-Cola (KO 45.21) reported in-line...Crude oil prices in London fell 2% as warmer-than-expected weather in US slows demand. European oil stocks were weak...
On the economic front, Durable Orders for Dec came in at 2.0% vs 1.3% consensus. Futures ticked higher on the release. Also, Conf Bd Consumer Confidence is due at 10ET. Briefing.com expects a much higher reading (105.0) than consensus (95.0)....S&P 500 futures are trading 1.6 pts above fair value while Nas 100 PMI is +7.
