Actually, that is the way the story is presented in the United States and is not an accurate description of what happens in Canada. A Canadian friend's father was not feeling well just before Xmas, went to the doctor and in less than two weeks of seeing the family doctor was at home recuperating from quadruple bypass heart surgery. He was an emergency situation, I understand if the surgery is elective or not life threatening you are on a waiting list. Also, MRI's have waiting lists. Certainly the system has its problem and needs adjusting, but it's not as bad as some in the states paint the situation. American friends living fulltime in Canada, all say the health insurance system in canada is great.
