I believe that the referendum would have passed had it been solely up the Francophone Quebecois, but there is a substantial Anglophone community, especially in and around Montreal.

It is hard to know what would happen if the provinces of Canada went independent. I would guess that the United States would not take in the Western Provinces as long as Ottowa objected. Even London has a stake, insofar as the Queen is still the head of state, represented by the governor- general. But if they are allowed to go their own way, maybe we would take them...............
