Avoiding salt is one thing you can do for high blood pressure. My brother takes beta blockers for his high blood pressure(I use it too, for media interviews to help keep my cool). There are alternative methods that can reduce high blood pressure to a limited degree. I think having ginger root in your diet can help. Another good strategy is more exercise, it works for many people, not all. A brisk 20 minute walk three time a week can work wonders. Then there's things like yoga, which teaches breathing techniques, that too can help lower blood pressure. I seem to control my own tendency toward high blood pressure by exercising regularly. I follow GWB's strategy (at least before he was president) and try to jog 2 to 3 miles 3 to 4 times a week.

A poster who goes by Shootie is very into alternate health care and told me to go to a General Nutrition Center store. They carry a supplement called Potassium & Magnesium Aspertate 250. Many of the high BP medications are a form of Potassium. It lowered mine about 10 points.
