That's just my interpretation of history. That is an oversimplification of history. BillG is not the first unethical or ruthless manager, yet his company is at the top of the heap while others (Enron, Sunbeam) waste away in Chapter 11. It is easy for the losers to attribute all the success of M$ to their ethical lapses, while ignoring other traits of the company that has allowed it to stay on top. Focus on the average consumer; hire motivated, highly productive coders fresh out of school; an aggressive best-idea-wins environment in which a low-rung employee can blast the CEO and get promoted to VP for doing so...
