Hi NYCB, <<I was pressured into playing, and lost $50...my wife lost $50 on the nickel machines...I feel terrible about it. I guess I am the weirdo since I have a good job!>>

No you were not pressured into doing it. I know exactly what happened. I was once in an Atlantic City casino, immediately after graduating college. I was there for some kind of meeting that I did not bother to attend, and had a run-in with the slot machines. It was right before dinner, and my boss and I were hanging out in the lobby.

I did notice all the glazed donut looking and windbreaker clad crowds with two Styrofoam cups in their hand trying the various machines, in some sequence, based on some system. I thought them looked sad.

While waiting for other colleagues from all around the world, I plopped a quarter into one slot machine in the lobby, and many quarters came out. I said to boss, ‘let’s get on with the dinner’.

After dinner, my boss asked if I wanted to participate in girl-watching. I declined, got a Styrofoam cup and some quarters, and proceeded to show the sad-looking crowd what they are doing wrong. I tried various machines, in some sort of sequence, using one and then two machines at a time. I remember that several hundred dollars of quarters flowed through my grasp, netting a loss of about 75 dollars, after several hours, when my eyes had long glazed over, with two Styrofoam cups in my hand, not having fun.

The stock market is a lot like the casino. Girls came first for most of the time after that.
