There is truth in that. I haven't studied capacity rates but here is something that strikes me:

A lot is made of the amount of cable laid in the ground. It made sense to bury as much bandwidth as possible for each piece of cabling. You only want to dig up roads once. So cable manufacturers may suffer reduced sales for some time to come. What must be remembered then, is that the server and network equipment infrastructure weren't similarly over specced. In fact, server and network equipment, all else being equal, now has a head start, cos the cable is laid to take advantage of it.

The trouble is, the demand still won't be as high as during the initial internet build out. Thus manufacturers will have lean times to come.

Of course we will see some significant growth in SUNW, here's why: New line of servers, top of the line to the bottom coverage i.e. full line; developed software offerings, developing services business, strong R & D continued through the downturn, no lies or bullshit from management, capital spending upturn, ultra low inventories.
