OT OT OT Warp,

I think the real Olympics probably only existed in the 1920s to 1950s, when only amateurs could compete and your reward was maybe a Wheaties box top contract. The advertisers and the networks really ruin it for me (I did get the chance once to watch the Olympics from Japan--American viewers might be surprised to find out people from other countries often compete for medals in the O's, sometimes against people from other countries which aren't even the U.S.A. It was very pleasant, then I saw a U.S. network broadcast which was 3 hours of commercials, canned tape, "human interest stories about Dan from Wisconsin," yecch.)

It's not that other sports are better--since when did we become interested in watching NFL wide receivers doing the "hustle" in the end zone in their stretch pants and jock straps?? The NBA?? Puhleeeeeease, no.

And it's not even limited to sports, what about an overhyped "family" vacation in Disneyworld? It's like all of America is on drugs, drugged to enjoy events which should, taken on face value, on any metric, be painful. (You want an example: 11 hours at Disneyworld, 7.50 hours standing in line, 1.5 hours walking from "ride" to "ride," 1.33 hours eating overpriced food and shopping at overpriced branded junk stores, 0.66 hours "riding" or "plunging" or "twirling" on something literally gut-wrenching. The general population must be brain dead to consider this fun.)

You want real fun? Paddling a canoe or a kayak, hiking, camping, skiing, climbing, playing tennis, reading, anything but what is shoveled at us.

End of rant, for now,

Kb
