Gee he kind of made it tough on you claiming no matter what the punishment it was worth it. I wonder if he still felt that way the night of the sleep over.

Aren't kids fun:)

Question...

If he had asked you to go, would you have let him?

Before I explain why, that needs to be answered.

Jane,

You really should write a book on parenting.

That was a great story and the perfect way to handle the situation.

The only thing I could add is that you could have told him that if he wanted to go to another hill, he should have come home and asked permission. At that point, you could have sent another family member along or denied permission.

I might have already posted this, but one of my off-limit places was an old gravel pit. It was full of water and Lord only knows how deep. I was on a makeshift raft, paddling around, and got close to another kid on another makeshift raft. For whatever reason, he jumped from his raft to mine.
Mine began to slowly sink. Without a word uttered, he jumped back on his. At this point in my life, I could not swim. I would have probably drowned.

When I got home, I relayed the experience to my mother, hoping she would be glad I was still alive.

She responded by sending me to my room and to bed and taking the rest of my siblings to the movies.

I still don't understand the feelings I have on her actions, but I have never forgotten it.

Have fun,
Phil

P.S. If you decide to write a book, I could probably help out with a chapter or two.
