Compaq to Roll Out 8,000 Desktops to Over 475 Locations; Named Preferred IT Vendor HOUSTON, Jan. 29 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Compaq Computer Corporation (NYSE: CPQ) today announced that it has signed a $10 million agreement with Beverly Enterprises Inc. (NYSE: BEV), naming Compaq the company's preferred IT personal computer vendor. The first project under this agreement involves the roll out of over 8,000 desktops to more than 475 Beverly locations across the U.S. Compaq Global Services has also signed a custom Service Level Agreement (SLA) to manage warranty incidents on existing hardware solutions previously deployed by Beverly. Beverly Enterprises is a leading provider of eldercare services in America. "The Beverly Enterprises project is a great example of Compaq's ability to deliver a completely integrated product and services solution," said Jerry Earle, Central Region vice president, Compaq. "Our product and services teams work together to accelerate IT deployments to support users and business units in their mission, and our one-stop-shopping approach not only reduces administrative overhead, but provides customers with a single-point-of-contact to manage acquisition, implementation and ongoing operations. Compaq is differentiating its infrastructure solutions and creating customer value through superior service and financing," Earle added. Compaq Technology in a Services Wrapper According to the agreement, Compaq is providing asset tagging, integration of third party hardware, and partnering with Altiris Inc. to provide lifecycle management solutions for approximately 8,000 Deskpro EN desktop computers. Compaq Direct delivered the Deskpro computers in phases to the 475-plus BEI locations across North America, averaging roughly 100 locations per month over a six-month period. "We chose Compaq because of the great products they offer surrounded by all their services capabilities," said Mike Matheny, Executive vice president and chief information officer at Beverly. "It was important that we have this new hardware rolled out by the end of the year. By wrapping together products and services into a total solution, Compaq addressed many of our problems at once and made itself an integral -- and indispensable -- part of the value it could provide to our organization. Not only did we get reliable, high-quality products, but we were able to get them in a customized, turnkey solution. That's the real value." A project manager will be responsible for the complex project management of the roll out as well as the monitoring and reporting of service metrics over the next three years. Compaq Financial Services is providing the leasing finance for the project. As part of the agreement, BEI and Compaq also entered into a master agreement -- worth $10 million initially -- governing a partnership for the breadth of Compaq products and making Compaq a preferred technology partner for BEI.
