Clinton rallies Democrats in S.F.
Enron is all that's needed to get things going at Boxer fund-raiser

Carla Marinucci, Chronicle Political Writer Tuesday, January 29, 2002 With President Bush's popularity at sky-high levels, Democrats gathered last night to see fund-raiser extraordinaire Bill Clinton and raised what is expected to be their rallying cry for the tough elections ahead: Enron.

"It's a disturbing story of people at the top trampling on everyone else," U.S. Sen. Barbara Boxer said to applause before 200 supporters at the Fairmont,

where she raised $400,000 with Clinton at her side. "Is this administration involved in any of this, in all of this? We will find out."

The former president's appearance for Boxer initiated a round of fund- raisers in California intended to bolster the party -- and beef up the partisan war chest -- for elections this year and in 2004.

Clinton, introduced by Boxer last night as "my president," heads to Beverly Hills today to do a $1.5 million fund-raiser for Gov. Gray Davis at the home of grocery magnate Ron Burkle. Then he heads back to Northern California for a speech on globalization at the University of California at Berkeley. He also has scheduled appearances in Silicon Valley and Santa Barbara.

Boxer got cheers when she aggressively went after the Bush administration for its ties to Enron. But Clinton -- a prodigious political fund-raiser who also received funds from Enron -- never mentioned the Houston energy firm by name. Instead, he fired up the crowd by reminding them of his administration's accomplishments -- particularly on the economic front.

Clinton told the audience that Sept. 11 has raised feelings of "anger, and fear, patriotism and uncertainty," but he urged Democrats to focus on their mission as they look ahead, to "stay together and stay united."

But "there are other issues out there," he said. "We have to keep America moving forward" and consider what will happen at home "after al Qaeda."

In a reference to the economic troubles being faced by Bush, Clinton called for "a serious economic debate" in coming months, but he warned, "We ought to be more political, but less partisan."

While the Democrats' popular former president never mentioned the Enron issue, Boxer and party insiders were eager to talk up Topic One: Republican ties to Enron and its troubles.

Boxer also called on Vice President Dick Cheney to release records regarding his meetings with energy industry executives, including some from Enron, as he was formulating the Bush administration's energy policy. Cheney has resisted, saying executive privilege issues are at stake.

Gov. Jeb Bush's daughter, Noelle, charged with prescription fraud.

Drug problems happen to more and more families.

I read last summer that Mr. Bush's wife didn't want
him to run for re-election. From news reports,
she wasn't fond of Tallahassee. I don't recall
spending time in Tallahassee so I don't know what
the place is like.

How have you been Karen?

So let me get this right. A 24-year-old daughter of the republican president's brother is a kid who should be better controlled by her parents (and uncle) --- but a 21-year-old intern who is seduced into performing lude sexual acts on a democrat president in the Oval Office is a normal consenting adult?

Let me ask you, should Pres Bush pardon his neice the same way President Rapist pardoned his brother Roger, a convicted drug dealer?

What say the brilliant minds of moronity here?
