That's possible too, although I don't blame the MM's much. There are lots of shorts that are relishing in all this nervousness about issues that are relatively new that they helped stir up as a result of Enron.

I'm not a big conspiracy theory guy, but can you imagine a bunch of powerhouse guys sitting around after the Enron thing and after the Naz hit 2100 awhile back and saying, "We've got a real opportunity here boys on the short side. Let's capitalize on Enron and spread the Fear. It's money in the bank!"

Then they not only make money on the short side, but when they help get the Market down low enough, they will switch to the long side, probably before any of us do.
