Kis, have you ever tried Billy's Ariba tacos in the hard shell or the soft shell?
The ground beef is full of protein. His hot sauce gives you the lift to run 1000 miles.
One Billy taco can make you run from east LA to Palo Alto without you needing to take a boomer.

kiss, enuff already, huh? ;-) too few carbs is the main point serious athletes have AGAINST the zone - so i know atkins withers away to nothing at that level.

marathon? excuse me while i go rest. ;-)

reasonable folks know carbos aren't bad... they just shouldn't be abused.

>> Ok you idiots, as someone who has been on a low-carb diet for the past 5 years and who has completed *three* marathons, I think I know what I'm talking about. <<

excuse me, but it doesn't take any brains to do either one.

>> Low carb is GREAT for people who want to lose weight without a lifestyle-changing amount of extra physical exercise. You can do the atkins diet and lose a ton of weight while just sitting on your ass. <<

so what you're saying is the majority of america is well suited to atkins since most americans are inactive.

>> However, your top-performance energy levels WILL decrease <<

prove it.

>> If you intend on running a marathon or any other high-endurance event, you HAVE TO LOAD UP ON CARBS BEFOREHAND <<

wrong.

>> Your body can't convert fat to energy fast enough to meet the demands of immediate strenuous activity, period. <<

immediate? how is running 26.2 miles immediate? sounds like a sustained effort to me. if you're such an expert on marathons why don't you tell us how many calories are burned running one. after you do that i'll explain to you how much carbohydrate your liver and muscles can store. then after some simple math you will see how you need to burn fat to run a marathon.

>> Once I tried to run 5 miles after not having any carbs for about 4 weeks <<

what does this prove? if you didn't have any carbs for 4 weeks you were obviously deficient in vital micronutrients. i have never advocated a zero-carb diet, i said a low-carb diet. the carbs in your diet should be from vitamin and mineral packed low-sugar vegetables and fruits. if you eat nothing but meat, butter, and cheese all day you will be lacking certain vitamins and minerals needed to perform optimally.

>> Any legitimate competitive athelete knows they must ingest carbs, and lots of them <<

hogwash. they just need to choose their carbs wisely. they can get all the micronutrients needed to perform from low-carb veggies, nuts, and fruits. they don't need potatoes, pasta, bread or such.

>> The trick is that they expend so many calories with physical activity that they don't gain weight from them. <<

well i think we will all agree if you expend a lot of energy you can get away with eating more carbs. but you are sadly mistaken if you think those carbs should be pasta, rice, bread, etc.
