Like any interest group it has a certain agenda. NARAL is concerned about its opinion of constitutional rights only as they pertain to abortion. Actually both groups have some interest in the first amendment as a protection from those who would try to use government force to shut them up, but your right that the NRA, like other many other interest groups focuses on a specific agenda. In many ways that is a good thing, if you want to support or oppose that group you know what you are supporting or opposing. Your problem is with the agenda of the NRA but I can't see how it is a problem that it has one or that it sticks to it, only that you don't like the agenda it has selected. Its motives are totally self serving and not for the common good much like terrorist organizations. Its motives are to help achieve the common good as it's member see it. I know you disagree with them but that does not make them terrorists. You really should try to resist the urge to demonize your opponents. The quality of our lives is not enhanced by the successes of the NRA......in fact, its successes endangers our lives I disagree but we have already been having that argument. Like our president, I want to single out the negative and dangerous culprits in our midst who endanger the well being of this great country......whether they be terrorists or the NRA. I am American and a patriot just like our president. I don't doubt that you are a patriot and that you want to do what you think is best for our country. But any action along the lines of what you are suggesting would gut the 1st amendment and several other important legal and constitutional principles. The president isn't going after people like Osama bin Laden because he is an Islamic fundamentalist, or even because he hates the US. We go after OBL because he plans massive terrorist attacks against the US. The NRA is not a terrorist organization. It operates non violently and within the law. I ask again does the 1st amendment only apply to people that agree with you? I have disagreed with you a number of times in the past but I don't think that I have ever found some of your ideas to be scary, but the idea of treating the NRA like a terrorist organization is scary. Think of how you would react if someone with different political ideas, who thought some group like NARAL, or the ACLU was harmful, treated it like a terrorist organization. Tim
