The investor has a greater chance if he invests in fundamental technology, not particular applications. I have chosen chip fabrication, analog and mixed signal, and programmable logic. These are key technologies with high barriers to entry and dominant companies. I don't need to list the companies, again.

I have been looking for other technologies and companies because I am a strong believer in the importance of technology in our economic future, but I have not found companies to add to my list. I have looked at galium arsenide, silicon carbide, silicon nitride, and fiber optics, but I don't see any dominant companies with a good track record. Fab automation (BRKS/PRIA, ASYT), chip testers (TER), chip packaging (KLIC), test handlers (COHU), mask makers (DPMI), and DUV lasers (CYMI) have dominant companies, but I already like my representation in fab technology.

snips:

"Many of our current customers and prospects remain very engaged in mutually beneficial development activities. However, they continue to delay major close-in capital equipment purchasing decisions."

"As we move to the fourth quarter of fiscal 2002, we expect revenues will continue to be negatively impacted by the slowness in the semiconductor industry."
